Finn Balor New US Champion, Damian Priest Turns Heel

Finn Balor defeated Damian Priest for the United States Championship, causing the Archer of Infamy to turn to the dark side!

On the February 22nd edition of Monday Night Raw, Damian Priest successfully defended his United States Championship against Shelton Benjamin before cutting a promo asking for a world class athlete to step up and face him. This brought out Finn Balor, who’d returned earlier in the night after being absent from the company since being defeated by Austin Theory a month prior.

Balor said that Priest should be careful what he wished for and that he wanted a United States Championship match on next week’s episode of Raw.

“You wanna face a serious athlete? You wanna face a serious fighter? You want a world champion level opponent? Sounds like you’re talking about me. Be careful what you wish for, Priest. I’ll see you next week.”

Their hard-hitting match saw plenty of back and forth action with multiple nearfalls. In the end, Balor was able to pin the Archer of Infamy and become the new United States Champion after hitting the Coup de Grace.

After the match Priest got on the microphone and said that the people had carried Finn Balor and that he never received that level of respect from the crowd. He then attacked Balor, eventually delivering the Razor’s Edge to him into the announce table outside the ring.

He made his newfound villainous intentions clear by yelling “I am the bad guy! You’re right!” to the crowd after the attack.

Before losing the title on Raw, Damian Priest had become the longest reigning United States Champion of the brand split era.
