The injury occurred during the main event, which saw Balor retain his title against Kyle O’Reilly. The pair both suffered injuries during the hard hitting contest, the severity of which was not immediately clear. WWE.com issued this update at the time.
The main event of NXT TakeOver 31 was a brutal, hard-hitting battle for the NXT Championship between Finn Bálor and Undisputed ERA’s Kyle O’Reilly. In the aftermath of the grueling main event, it has become evident that both Superstars are worse for wear.
O’Reilly has a number of broken teeth as a result of the fight with The Prince, WWE.com has learned. O’Reilly is also being evaluated for additional injuries.
WWE.com can also report that Bálor has been taken to a local medical facility for CAT scans to determine if he suffered potential facial fractures in his successful title defense.
The full extent of Balor’s injuries remained unclear until today.
The champion also promised to give the full story on tonight’s episode of NXT. The returning Ember Moon will kick off tonight’s show, while Kushida vs Tommaso Ciampa has also been announced. You can follow live updates on Inside The Ropes here.
Finn Balor won the NXT Championship last month at NXT Super Tuesday II, defeating Adam Cole for the vacant title. Karrion Kross had defeated Keith Lee for the championship at the previous Takeover, but had to give up the belt due to a shoulder injury. Balor himself is no stranger to vacating championships due to injury. Famously having to relinquish the newly created Universal Title the night after winning it at SummerSlam in 2016.
