NXT Champion Finn Balor has reflected on his NXT TakeOver: Vengeance Day war with Pete Dunne calling the Brit, “one of the absolute best I’ve ever been in the ring with.”
On February 14, 2021, ‘The Prince’ and ‘The Bruiserweight’ went toe-to-toe for the first time on American shores with the prestigious NXT Championship on the line. With the WWE United Kingdom Championship reign about to be broken by WALTER, Pete Dunne looked to begin a new sovereignty on the black and gold brand.
After weeks of sneak attacks by the Birmingham native, both men traded jaw shattering blows, classic technical holds and all-out power moves in order to secure their legacy before the champion drove himself through his challenger with the Coup de Grace and 1916 for the victory.
Now, Finn Balor has sat down with WWE After The Bell in order to detail why he believes Pete Dunne is one of the absolute best he’s ever stepped in the ring with:
“I’ve been doing this 20-plus years, and I’ve been in the ring with all sorts of talented guys throughout my journey, and I feel like Pete Dunne is right up there in the top five guys I’ve ever been in the ring with. He’s absolutely a special talent, and at his age, his confidence that he has in the ring, his ability, his skill, he’s one of the absolute best I’ve ever been in the ring with.”
However, it doesn’t look as though Dunne is finished with the champion just yet. On the February 17, 2021, edition of NXT, ‘The Bruiserweight’ pinned ‘The Prince’ at the conclusion of a 6-Man Tag Team Match which in wrestling tradition would once again make him number one contender to the NXT Championship.
