Finn Balor finally breaks his silence on the controversial finish to his Extreme Rules match against Roman Reigns.
The Demon Finn Balor challenged The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules 2021 for the Universal Championship. Near the end of the Extreme Rules bout, Balor seemed poised to hit the Coup de Grace onto Reigns when the top rope inexplicitly snapped, causing The Demon to fall and hurt his knee. This allowed Reigns to capitalize and hit the sphere for the win.
One year later, Balor is finally breaking his silence on the controversial finish. While speaking with Josh Martinez of Superstar Crossover, the current member of Judgement Day mentioned how he feels the ending of his match with Reigns was “left open-ended” and that Brock Lesnar’s reappearance in the company significantly changed plans.
“I feel like it’s just been left open-ended, and the finish hasn’t been addressed. There was an idea to go a different direction, but then Brock returned, and the direction changed. So that’s something you have to kind of come to terms with and understand in WWE that, there’s always going to be — if one piece of the jigsaw changes, the whole landscape changes. If someone gets hurt, or someone returns, there’s always going to be different ideas and plans in place.
So you just got to be able to adapt to the ever-evolving situation. That’s what we have to do but I feel like the finish of that match has definitely caused some watercooler talk, so to speak, and the fact that we’re still talking about it a year later, is evidence of that, and I feel like in the next couple of months, we should really revisit that and address what happened that night.”
Balor may have other things to worry about than Roman Reigns and the Bloodline. During the season premiere of Monday Night Raw, he and the Judgement Day were blindsided by the return of Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson. The two assisted their former tag partner, AJ Styles, in fending off Judgement Day.
