Finish To Raw Match Changed Due To Suspected Injury

WWE Raw Stage

The finish to one particular high-flying match on Monday Night Raw was changed at the last second due to a suspected injury.

On the February 28th episode of Monday Night Raw, RK-Bro met the Street Profits in tag team action. As expected the momentum switched back and forth between the two highly energetic teams, until Montez Ford picked up with with a Frog Splash on Randy Orton.

However, many fans noted that the end of the match looked awkward and clumsy. After being hit by the Frog Splash, Orton lay motionless for a second before rolling towards the ropes, seemingly clutching his ribs. He then tried to put his foot on the ropes during the pin, so that Angelo Dawkins could push it away, but he was too far away.

After the referee counted the pin, Orton, still looking far from comfortable, looked to be in deep conversation with the referee and Ford. They were later joined at different intervals by Riddle and Dawkins.

A new report from Fightful Select, has now confirmed that the finish to the match was changed on the fly due to Orton’s condition. The original plan had been for RK-Bro to win the match with a series of RKO’s.

The report adds that Orton was momentarily unable to move, adding that initial indications suggested he had suffered a stinger or some kind of tweak. Since then, Fightful say they were told that Orton got the wind knocked out of him, had his ribs crushed and was unable to move.

There is said to be no heat on Montez Ford for the incident, with it being filed firmly under “sh*t happens.”

Elsewhere on the show, Finn Balor pinned Damian Priest to win the United States Championship for the first time in his career. While AJ Styles answered Edge’s open challenge for a match at WrestleMania. Although that was only half the story as the Rated R Superstar brutally attacked Styles leaving him laying at the end of the show.
