After his feud with Bray Wyatt, LA Knight’s main roster career slowly started to kick into gear.
While he wasn’t headlining major events or involved in major feuds, fans started to rally behind the star despite him still playing a heel on-screen. The true extent of that fan support came to the fore on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 39 where the star took part in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The crowd all but ignored everyone else in the match, giving Knight a monster ovation and cheering for him throughout.
This was followed by a great deal of annoyance on social media when Knight didn’t feature at WrestleMania at all, despite reports suggesting he’d be involved.
Speaking to Kenny McIntosh for Inside The Ropes ahead of WWE Money In The Bank, Knight was asked whether there was a plan for him to be on the card. The former NXT star didn’t get into details about specific plans, commenting that he didn’t know, but he did reveal that WWE had something planned which eventually fell through.
“I have no idea is what I can tell ya, cause I really don’t. I got there and as far as I knew there was supposed to be somethin’ and eventually there wasn’t, whatever. LA, the city, not me, let them know about it at SmackDown and at the Hall of Fame. Look, I’ll go ahead and say it. It was a huge missed opportunity. But here’s the deal, [taps Money In The Bank logo] Money In The Bank’s coming up, you wanna talk about retribution, you wanna talk about making up for it, we’re gonna do that.”
LA Knight Recalls Working With Bray Wyatt
During the conversation, Knight looked back at his lengthy program with Bray Wyatt, and reflected on being the first person to feud with the star following his return to WWE.
Knight said that as soon as he was put into the feud he knew things would be “peachy” given he was determined to make the most of his now high-profile position.
