Having been involved in the wrestling industry for decades, the fallout between the Young Bucks and CM Punk is far from the first backstage dispute Konnan has seen come and go.
The problems between The Elite and CM Punk have been well documented but came to the fore once again when the latter returned to AEW on June 17th at Collision. After being critical of Hangman Adam Page in an interview before the show, Punk also took a couple of friendly jabs at the Bucks on air.
However, he also revealed that he has tried to speak with the Jackson brothers and Kenny Omega, but has been prevented from doing so.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Nick Hausman for Inside The Ropes, Konnan said that he hopes everyone can resolve their issues. The veteran pointed to Punk and Chris Jericho squashing their beef during a recent meeting.
“Well, you want to think that time heals all wounds, which it usually does, you know, it’s over if the guy has actually said, ‘Hey, I’m willing to talk with them, but they don’t want to talk with me.’ And so at the end of the day, he’s willing to talk obviously, from what I’ve read, and you probably know more than me, him and Chris Jericho — Jericho was burying him if you remember, they buried the hatchet and I think the Young Bucks should too.”
Konnan added that rather than just having Punk address the Bucks on Collision, it might have been more effective to have their pair respond to get fans to tune in to the next show.
“If he would have come back and the Young Bucks would have done something with him everybody would be waiting to watch next week and that’s what you want.”
The WCW legend explained that this is something WWE does incredibly well, and their cliff hangers mean that fans can’t wait to tune in to see what happens next.
“That’s what WWE has done so well. You know, especially with The Bloodline you want to see what’s going to happen next week. You know, they’re really good at doing cliff hangers, and they’ve done a great job of that, where AEW has struggled.”
CM Punk’s Latest Jabs At The Young Bucks Cleared By Management
While CM Punk’s comments about The Elite and the Young Bucks on Collision created a stir among fans, it seems that it might be little more than a storm in a teacup. The former AEW Tag Team Champions responded to the comments jokingly on social media, and it has been reported that the lines in reference to them were cleared with management ahead of time.
