Hornswoggle’s in-ring career has taken him all over the world and to some of the biggest promotions on the planet, however, he’s admitted that his run could be over.
The star made his name while working with WWE from 2006 until 2016, although he’s made occasional appearances for the company since. After leaving the sports entertainment giant, Swoggle became a fixture on the independent scene and eventually made appearances for both IMPACT and AEW.
Hornswoggle’s last appearance with a major company came in late 2020 when he defeated Ethan Page in IMPACT just days after making a cameo in AEW during the Inner Circle’s trip to Las Vegas.
During an exclusive interview with Nick Hausman for Inside The Ropes, the star — real name Dylan Postl — was asked whether there were plans for him to return to AEW in the future. The former WWE Cruiserweight Champion said that while he’d love to, his in-ring days are probably behind him.
“Not that I know of. I mean, I would love to, but in-ring, probably is behind me, if I’m being honest with myself after my second failed back surgery. It ain’t in the cards, I don’t believe in-ring for a major company.
But I truly believe the coaching stuff. And I’m finally like, grasping that whether I have more to give inside the ring compared to outside, and teaching and helping and that I’m okay with that. I can sign my fake name for the rest of my life. And I’m fully okay with that.”
Hornswoggle Focusing On Backstage Roles
Continuing on Hornswoggle explained that he has now shifted his attention to coaching and trying to pass on his experience to the next generation. The star also heaped praise on Fit Finlay for his ability to pick up on things that no one else sees.
“What it comes down to is I have I love helping. I love when we when we have our school, I love teaching three times a week, and just helping the guys grasp and learn new stuff that they wouldn’t think about. Working right beside Finlay for 10 years, I picked up a lot I feel, and he would just notice little stuff that no one else would notice. And I’d hear him mention it at the monitor and it would just be like, ‘Man, how do you see that?’ And just stuff like that I’ll always kind of take with me and really hold true to myself.”
While not wrestling for a major company, Hornswoggle has continued to compete on the independent circuit, mostly in tag team matches.
