A former champion in WWE has ruled out an appearance at the next AEW pay-per-view.
A match originally scheduled for Worlds End was AEW Tag Team Champions Ricky Starks and Big Bill defending the titles against Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega. However, due to Kenny Omega being out of action indefinitely due to contracting diverticulitis, the originally advertised match will not be going ahead. Instead, Jericho is currently looking for a replacement partner.
Due to his history with Big Bill and being referenced on a previous episode of Dynamite, former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore was asked if he would consider partnering with Jericho to face off against his former partner turned rival. Speaking at a virtual signing, Enzo stated that fans should not expect to see him in Long Island on December 30th:
“Would I? That is definitely something that is not in the cards right now because I am a free agent. I don’t know what the deal is over there, I don’t know who is doing what, who has the pencil, I don’t know who is wrestling who. I just know that I’m damn proud of Big Bill holding the tag team titles. The last thing I would ever want to do is break his leg and take it away from him.
Enzo continued, revealing how much Big Bill means to him before jokingly stating that he would stand tall over the 7-footer:
I love that guy. I’m pulling for him, I’m rooting for him. I’m not trying to beat him up. Everyone knows I would beat him up, I would beat the hell out of him. [Smiles, implying sarcasm]. Seriously, Big Bill, how unbelievable is that story. What he overcame, where he’s at right now, nobody is happier than I am to see the success of that man,”
Known as Enzo and Big Cass in WWE, the partnership would implode in 2017 when Cass betrayed his long-time friend. The rivalry was cut short when Cass suffered an ACL tear during a match with Amore on Raw. By the time Cass returned to WWE in 2018, Amore had been released earlier that year following sexual assault allegations.
Multiple Former WWE Stars Available For Surprise Appearance
While Enzo has stated that he has no intentions of being on AEW programming, many former WWE Superstars are eligible for a shock appearance at the upcoming pay-per-view. Following multiple WWE Superstars being released from their contracts on September 21st, the 90-day no-competes have since expired, meaning that they are all effectively free agents.
H/t to Fightful.
