Eric Young keeps in regular contact with Triple H despite no longer being a part of WWE.
Young was originally brought back into the company back in November 2022, being one of many re-hires when Triple H was named the new head of creative back in July following Vince McMahon’s departure. However, following the news that the Chairman was making a return in the early part of 2023, WWE quietly released Young as he refused to work with Vince McMahon.
Speaking with Haus of Wrestling, Young confirmed that he frequently speaks with the head of creative and how much he enjoyed working for him while being in NXT, unlike when he was called up to the main roster:
“I still have a very good relationship with Hunter; I was just talking to him a couple of days ago,” Young revealed. “I loved it. The truth is, I never wanted to leave NXT. I knew that the main roster was the destination, and that’s where you made money, and that was kind of the end goal for most people. But the truth was deep in my heart I never wanted to leave in the first place. So yeah, I absolutely loved NXT. The main roster was not the same experience. It was a very poor experience, probably my least favorite out of my 30-plus years in wrestling.”
Young was called up to the main roster as part of the Sanity faction, which included Killian Dain, Alexander Wolfe and Nikki Cross. The group would shine in NXT but did not fair as well on the main roster, where they were called up to SmackDown without Cross in 2018. With little direction and questionable booking choices, the group were not the dominant force they were in NXT and was disbanded approximately one year later following Young being drafted over to Raw.
Wolfe, Dain and Young would all be released by the company during the many releases that took place throughout the pandemic. Getting the group back together on the independent scene, Sanity will reunite at the PROGRESS VENDETTA event in November.
Could Eric Young Be The Latest Triple H Re-Hire?
With Vince McMahon now firmly out of creative after being removed by Endeavor bosses, could Eric Young come back to WWE for a third time? During the same interview with Haus of Wrestling, Young confirmed that he is “pot committed” to IMPACT Wrestling, meaning that a WWE return is not possible at the moment. However, Young did tease that the door is still open with the phrase “never say never.”
