Ex-WWE Star Recalls Scrapped SummerSlam Plans Involving Megan Thee Stallion & Mercedes Mone

A former WWE Superstar has revealed that there were plans to have music megastar Megan Thee Stallion and Sasha Banks [now known as Mercedes Mone] appear at SummerSlam.

Celebrity appearances and matches are not exclusive to WrestleMania, with Pat McAfee, Jon Stewart and Stephen Amell all stepping inside the squared circle for a match or a run-in at The Biggest Party of The Summer. With professional wrestling and the wider entertainment world both being unpredictable machines at times, plans can change and previously booked guest spots get cancelled. A notable example was scrapped plans for John Cena and The Big Show to team up with Justin Bieber to take on The Wyatt Family.

While appearing on Mandy Rose & Tino Sabatelli’s Power Alphas podcast, former WWE star Mojo Rawley discussed his experiences at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, where Mercedes Mone was a guest host. During the conversation, Rawley revealed that the AEW star and the Grammy Award-winning rapper were set to work together at SummerSlam but plans fell through:

“We went out there for the Crunchyroll Anime awards. Mercedes Mone is a massive anime fan, so we were trying to find something for her in that world and Crunchyroll is essentially the Netflix of Anime. I had no idea the world out there, the scope of the anime community. We got Mercedes on, she’s going to be doing some exciting work with Crunchyroll. One of the things was to go to their anime awards and be a presenter.

Megan Thee Stallion was there, she was sitting at the table next to us. I didn’t realize, but I guess she was going to do something with Mercedes at WWE SummerSlam in years previous, and it just never materialized and fell through for one reason or another. We all know how those situations can go and they get crazy. She was cool. She is tall. I didn’t realize how tall she was. That was the first thing she said. She stood up, ‘Ya’ll didn’t realize how tall ya girl was.’ I was like, ‘Nope, I definitely didn’t,'”

WWE Announces Location For SummerSlam 2024

The company will host SummerSlam for the 37th time later in the year, continuing the long-running tradition of one of the biggest Premium Live Events in company history. On a recent episode of his podcast, United States Champion Logan Paul officially announced where SummerSlam 2024 will take place.
