Earlier this year, former NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion Shotzi departed WWE.
Last month, ahead of the 2nd May episode of SmackDown, 17 top stars in the promotion were let go by the company. The names were either released or their expiring contracts were not renewed. Amongst them was Shotzi Blackheart.
Blackheart recently made her return to the indies. She is also currently booked for several upcoming opportunities at the “Summer of the Beasts” event on June 26 from NYC’s Melrose Ballroom and a match against Nina Samuels on PROGRESS Wrestling’s June 29th show in Manchester, England. However, prior to all the scheduled appearances, Blackheart appeared for an interview with Ariel Helwani on The Ariel Helwani Show.
Discussing her World Wrestling Entertainment run, her release, and future opportunities, the former champion discussed the chances of joining AEW and justified her choice.
“I love their freedom. I have a lot of friends there who are doing really awesome things. I’ve heard many stories of how Tony treats talent. So yeah, I do love that he really cares for his talent. That is super important to me.”
She further revealed an NSFW reason as one of her motivations.
“And like, hot girls get to make out with each other.”

Apart from her above-listed appearances, the former champion is also scheduled to appear for a GCW show on June 20th and for F1rst Wrestling in September.
Shotzi Blackheart Discusses Her WWE Release And Possible Return
In the same interview with Ariel Helwani on The Ariel Helwani Show, she opened up on her WWE release.
“I probably will never know why they released me, but WWE doesn’t owe me anything. That’s showbiz, right? They just didn’t think that I was money and that’s OK. I can take that.”
She further addresses the chances of her return in the future.
“I would love to be back at WWE. I loved working there. I didn’t love not working there, you know what I’m saying? It was only when I wasn’t being used that I was unhappy. But anytime I was being used, good time. Loved the locker room, loved everyone I was working for.”
