A former WWE superstar has opened up on the explanation for one of Vince McMahon’s bizarre creative decisions.
Former WWE CEO Vince McMahon is infamous for some of the most absurd creative ideas over the years. McMahon’s reign as the creative head in the final few years of his career did not do well with the fans and was often at the receiving end of major criticisms.
However, recently one of his most popular yet weird creative decisions was broken down by Matt Hardy. Sharing his opinion on his podcast “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy”, the former tag-team Champion explained why McMahon liked to see wrestlers lose in their hometown.
I think he felt like it was going to get good heat, and I think in his mind he justified like, ‘I can get heat on an individual by taking advantage of the hometown star. And then, I’ll use this heat to build them into something bigger.”
Hardy further shared a personal experience to explain why Vince McMahon let superstars lose in their hometowns. At SummerSlam 2020, Matt and Jeff Hardy were supposed to win in their hometown until McMahon changed it one week before the PPV to surprise fans.
Vince said, ‘Damn it. Too many people think you’re going to win. We’ve got to change it. We’ll just do it at the next show –- wherever that’s at.’ It was Philadelphia, Unforgiven, in a cage match.”
McMahon always felt he had to present the fans with the most unexpected finish although he sometimes gave in to the public demands as well.
AEW Wrestler Opens Up On His Feelings Towards Vince McMahon
Before joining AEW in 2021, Bryan Danielson was one of the top wrestlers in WWE for over a decade. Danielson finished with the promotion on good terms, however, after the recent events, Bryan Danielson shared his current feelings towards Vince McMahon.
In an interview with Gorilla Position, he shared:
First and foremost, I want to say people that have been hurt are in a way worse position than I am. My empathy goes to them. There’s not a lot I want to say about it, honestly, because it’s not just the Vince piece, but my father-in-law [John Laurinaitis], or maybe ex-father-in-law, as far as that kind of stuff goes. You think of somebody in some way, and then something happens and it changes.”
