Is this former WWE star coming back to the promotion?
Released earlier last year in September 2023, Mustafa Ali has taken the Indie wrestling circuit by storm. With appearances in multiple promotions since his WWE release, Ali has addressed the chances of his return.
Popularly known for his TNA run earlier this year and an X-Division Championship run, Ali quietly departed the promotion leading fans to question his return to WWE. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet of Insight, Ali addressed all those concerns.
I think there’s multiple paths, yeah. The thing is, there’s good relations there. The thing with them moving to Netflix is very interesting because it just opens up — I don’t know how much the show is gonna change as far as dynamic, as far as ratings, as far as what they’re okay with.”
Ali’s last match on TNA was an unsuccessful challenge against Nic Nemeth for the World Championship. Since then, he has been active in the Indies and believes he has to build himself into something profitable that will pull him back into the Stamford-based promotion. Ali’s last WWE match was against Dragon Lee, with Dominik Mysterio as the special guest referee.
Mustafa Ali Believes His WWE Return Depends On Him
In the same interview, he detailed how his return is dependent on him. Praising the promotion’s current run, Ali believes he has to build something profitable that will help him plug into the WWE system.
Business is so good for them, I do think there is a pathway back there. There’s good relations, there’s good contact there. Even the release was like very nice, a lot of nice messages were sent. At the end of the day, it’s on me, right? If I built something that’s profitable and something that they see, oh this plugs in. With wrestling, everything is right place, right time.
It’s gotta be right for them, it’s gotta be right for me, it’s gonna be at the right time, it’s gotta be at the right place. When one person is here — If I want to go do this, it doesn’t fit. If they’re going a direction where there’s no spot for me, it doesn’t fit. It’s gotta be right place, right time. So here’s the right place, right time.”
A Chicago native, he is now set to open a wrestling school there by January 2025.
