A former WWE Champion has lifted the lid on a real fight that took place backstage during a WrestleMania event as one group turned on each other.
At WrestleMania 32 in Dallas, Texas, the biggest WrestleMania crowd in history was on hand to see Roman Reigns defeat Triple H for the WWE Championship and Charlotte Flair win the newly-reintroduced WWE Women’s Championship.
Also on the card was the League of Nations facing The New Day in a six-man tag team match. The League was comprised of Rusev, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio, and King Barrett with the first of those three names competing while Barrett accompanied his teammates to ringside.
The League of Nations won the bout but were soon cleared out of the ring by WWE Hall of Famers Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
In an interview with Sportskeeda, former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio claimed that just moments before the League of Nations went to the ring, things got physical between members of the group:
“Yeah, there was a big fight backstage but on that one, it was not me creating that altercation. The other two and I – we had to put someone in his place backstage before going out.”
“This is one minute before we went out to the ring, and one of us, I’m not gonna say who, one of us had to tell this person, ‘Listen, you mother f. We’re done with you. You’re gonna go out and do this because you’re a this, and you’re a that.β So yes, one minute before we went out in that huge, packed stadium, an altercation was happening backstage. You know, it’s part of wrestling.β
βOne of the members of the League of Nations grabbed this other member of the League of Nations, grabbed him by the neck, and put them against the wall like that. So that’s all I can say about it.β
