Ex-TNA World Champion Josh Alexander Makes AEW Debut; Possibly Selects New Alliance

Josh Alexander TNA AEW

Former World Champion Josh Alexander has arrived in AEW.

On the 16th April episode of Dynamite, former TNA/Impact World Champion Josh Alexander finally made his debut against another former AEW World Champion. Making his presence felt as the wild card entry in the Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament against Adam Page, ‘The Walking Weapon’ proved his worth. Following his debut, Tony Khan also announced that Alexander was now officially a part of the All Elite roster.

Despite boasting a strong legacy, Alexander failed to defeat Page and qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament. Defeating Alexander via a roll-up, Hangman booked himself a semi-final berth against Kyle Fletcher.

As the match concluded, fans saw The Protostar confront Page and begin a brawl. While Adam Page cleared the ring, a quick camera angle also saw Don Callis whisper something to Josh Alexander, who then followed it up with a sneak attack on Page. A few weeks ago, the Don Callis family made a new hiring announcement, and this former TNA star could be their new addition.

However, there has been no official update on this (as of this writing).

Earlier in the night, TBS Champion Mercedes Mone successfully defeated Athena via a roll-up to qualify herself for the finals of the women’s Owen Hart Cup.

Tony Khan Details WCW’s Influence On AEW

On 16th April 2025, All Elite Wrestling completed the 289th episode of Dynamite, surpassing the 288 weeks of WCW Nitro to become the longest-running wrestling show on the TNT/TBS Networks. Speaking to Jon Alba of The Takedown on SI, Tony Khan opened up on WCW’s influence on All Elite Wrestling.

“I’m a big fan, and I grew up watching the shows, and Nitro was a huge part of my childhood. And long before Nitro, I watched WCW. And I wish I could say I watched it long after, but that was kind of the end of the run. And I certainly learned a lot watching those shows.”

“I think there’s a lot of great influence [from] WCW. The most clear one to me is that the icon in WCW and our legend, our undefeated star, certainly the person we revere so much in AEW is Sting. And I think there’s a great shared history there. There’s a great shared history across TBS and TNT. Tony Schiavone being a key voice in both products, a lot of similarities.”
