Ex-AEW Wrestler Confirms When Contract Expired, Assessing Next Steps

Former AEW wrestler Jake Hager has confirmed that he is no longer a part of the company and has not been for a number of months.

One of the first signings to All Elite Wrestling back in 2019, Hager was featured prominently for a number of years largely due to his association with Chris Jericho. However, following the breakup of the Jericho Appreciation Society, Hager was featured less on TV.

In a surprising move back in April, AEW announced that multiple talents had been released from their contracts. In subsequent weeks, multiple members of the roster also reportedly exited the promotion including AEW original Hager, who left in late May according to the report.

While appearing on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, Hager confirmed that his contract expired back in June and is looking to assess his options:

It’s interesting. I’m excited to find out (what’s next for me). My contract expired with AEW in June, so I just left them. I’m currently working independents but, I’m 42 and I think it’s time to — I don’t know. I wanna find a way to be home more with my kids and so I’m looking into more business opportunities; construction, rental properties and I’d love to sit down with you John (Bradshaw Layfield) and get some pointers about announcing and maybe stay on camera that way.

But really, just doing what I can. I had a great career, very blessed to have that career so, now, it’s kind of easier. The pressure’s off and just try to be a good dad and good example for my kids.

Former AEW Star Jake Hager Recently Faced Backlash

On November 5th, citizens in the United States cast their vote to elect the next President of the United States, which was ultimately won by Donald Trump. In the lead-up to the news being made official, Hager posted a number of since-deleted social media posts that showed his endorsement for Trump and claimed that he was previously silenced by “communist” Tony Khan. Following the outburst, the former AEW wrestler saw a booking cancelled due to comments made.
