A recent report has emerged on this former AEW Champion’s disputes with Tony Khan.
Earlier this year, on the Raw after WrestleMania 41, former All Elite Wrestling TNT Champion Miro, now known as Rusev, made his WWE return. Engaging in a feud against the Alpha Academy, the 39-year-old star made his presence felt in the Stamford-based promotion.
After his release in 2020, Rusev joined AEW, where he won the TNT title and even featured in several acclaimed matches against some of the top stars there, including Bryan Danielson, Orange Cassidy, Andrade, and many more. However, following a strong initial run, his momentum fell as he wrestled only a handful of matches from 2021 to his final bout.
Recently, according to an update from Dave Meltzer’s “Wrestling Observer Radio,” it was noted that his fallout and creative differences with the promotion’s president, Tony Khan, led to his rare television appearances.
“Once he got down and serious, he had really good matches and it was going well and then he got hurt and then he and Tony just couldn’t agree on stuff and just didn’t do anything … there really wasn’t much to do with him because there just wasn’t, he didn’t want to lose before going back to WWE, so there you go.”

Miro wrestled his final match for the promotion at the 2023 Worlds End PPV in a victory against Andrade. Following his victory, Miro went on a hiatus to recover from an injury and later requested a release from the promotion, having wrestled only 11 matches since 2021. Later, in February 2025, he parted ways with Khan’s promotion.
Tony Khan Opens Up On Recent AEW-WBD Rumors
In October last year, All Elite Wrestling and Warner Bros. Discovery finalized a substantial, long-term media rights agreement. Recently, a major decision emerged about how the media giant is now expected to split into two leading companies by mid-2026. This led to several major speculations about WBD and All Elite Wrestling’s future.
That’s a great question. I know that AEW, for both sides of where Warner Bros. is going, we have great relationships with everybody at the top, both on Global Networks and Streaming & Studios. Mr. Zaslav himself put our deal together. Gunnar, who will be running Global Networks, also was very involved in our deal as the CFO. The two of them, and [Chief Revenue & Strategy Officer] Bruce Campbell, really negotiated this deal with AEW, and myself, and my team.”
