Ric Flair has offered his take on the current situation in AEW, praising the company for how they have begun to move forward.
AEW have almost become synonymous with chaos in recent weeks as the company continues to deal with the aftermath of CM Punk’s explosive comments following All Out which let to a brawl backstage.
With an investigation well underway, a number of AEW’s top stars remain suspended with the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega all missing. CM Punk is also absent through injury and suspension, which backstage, Ace Steel who also played a huge part in the melee remains suspended.
Having worked in wrestling for five decades across a number of promotions which spectacularly exploded from time to time, Ric Flair has seen his faire share of backstage madness. Speaking on a recent episode of his To Be The Man podcast, Flair discussed the very messy AEW situation.
Flair praised the company for how they have rebounded from the unrest, describing a recent episode of Dynamite as “hell of show.”
“That show that AEW had last week, after all this stuff between Punk and The Bucks and whoever they had involved. The show they had last week was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen them produce. I knew everybody on the show, and they got over a million viewers. So it just goes to show you everybody could be replaced.
Now Jericho had a hell of a match with Jon Moxley. And the opening match… Shoot, I can’t remember all of it but anyway, it was a hell of a show. I know everybody on it, and for the people that are in disagreement with each other right now weren’t on the show. And they still did over a million viewers. So good for them and they stay on track like that, the storylines that everybody can follow.
That’s how they catch up to WWE. They did almost 1.1 and on WWE 1.6, of course, against NFL so that to me, that’s the path and they need to follow, not worry about what’s going on backstage. Which apparently they’re not.”
AEW may soon be looking for replacements after it was reported that CM Punk could be set to leave the company. It has been claimed that Punk could now be on his way out of All Elite Wrestling, with a contract buyout a likely solution to the issues.
