Ethan Page is the new NXT North American Champion.
Tonight on the 27th May episode of NXT, Page collided with Ricky Saints for the North American Championship. Following a hard-fought and extremely physical match, Page was able to keep Saints down and claim his first-ever North American title.
With his win tonight, Page entered a very special WWE list. He has now joined the likes of Adam Cole, Johnny Gargano, Keith Lee, Carmelo Hayes, Trick Williams, and Oba Femi as the only seven stars to win both the NXT and North American Championship.
Amongst a total of 21 champions, only these seven men have held both the men’s NXT titles. A few other names, such as Dominik Mysterio, Damian Priest, and Swerve Strickland, have gone on to win other championships in WWE and other promotions as well.
The previous champion, Saints had won the title from Shawn Spears on the 1st April episode of NXT, and defended it for a total of two times, before losing to the ‘All Ego’ tonight.
Ethan Page Believes AEW Saw Nothing In Him
Earlier this year, during an appearance on Busted Open After Dark, Ethan Page revealed why AEW possibly saw nothing in him while NXT pushed him as a top star.
“This company is run by wrestlers. [AEW] didn’t know what they had, and now they do. I’m gone. These guys have me. They have the ability to do whatever it is that they want, and they have chosen to open a door for Ethan Page to absolutely kick wide open.”
After tonight’s victory, Page has advanced to the WWE x AAA Worlds Collide show, where he will defend his newly won championship against an unknown competitor, which according to Fightful Select is expected to be a four-way match amongst Je’Von Evans, Laredo Kid and Rey Fenix, which later got confirmed during the show.
