Former WWE star Erick Rowan recently spoke about his pairing with Daniel Bryan. During Bryan’s run as an eco-friendly heel on SmackDown, Rowan served as his intimidating muscle. The giant superstar even played a part during Bryan’s WWE Championship defense against Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35.
The two became involved in a storyline with Roman Reigns. Rowan admitted to targeting Reigns backstage and broke his alliance with Bryan. After he feuded with Reigns and Bryan, Erick Rowan was drafted to Monday Night Raw and began carrying a cage with a cloth hidden over it to the ring. Eventually it was revealed that a giant spider was in the cage.
On April 15, 2020, he was released from his WWE contract along with several other superstars due to budget cuts.
Erick Rowan’s Singles Push On Raw Wasn’t Planned Out
“The idea of us together was great. Getting broken apart was even better because it allowed me a chance to start to tell my story, outside of being just ‘sheep man,'” Rowan said. “I think after I switched brands, and the cage thing, they just didn’t have any idea. After the original thing fell through, they just didn’t know what to do with me.”
Before partnering with Bryan, Erick Rowan had a long-established relationship with Bray Wyatt in WWE. Along with the late Luke Harper, Rowan worked under the tutelage of Wyatt in the sinister group known as the Wyatt Family. With Wyatt now back in the company after a lengthy absence, there are rumors of Rowan re-joining his former leader in a new group called the Wyatt 6.
After his WWE release, Rowan began taking wrestling bookings under the ring name Erick Redbeard. He made a cameo during the AEW Dynamite tribute episode to Luke Harper(Brodie Lee).
