Erick Rowan, the long-time tag team partner of the late Brodie Lee, has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to his dearly departed friend.
Brodie Lee, real name Jon Huber, tragically passed away at the age of 41 on Boxing Day as a result of a non Covid-related lung issue. Rowan, of course, would spend the majority of his wrestling career thus far teaming with Brodie Lee during Lee’s time as Luke Harper in WWE.
The pair were paired together shortly after FCW was rebranded as NXT, with Rowan joining Bray Wyatt in December 2012 as the “second son” with Luke Harper being the first son. The Wyatt Family would then tear through NXT and WWE over several years, most memorably feuding with Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose – now known as Jon Moxley in AEW. Rowan and Harper’s relationship would even outlast their time in the Wyatt Family, however, with the team winning the SmackDown Tag Team Championships as the Bludgeon Brothers in 2018.
Joseph Ruud, known as Erick Rowan in WWE and now Erick Redbeard, would post a heartfelt tribute.
“Heartbroken and numb. Just when I think my eyes have dried, I think of you and begin to cry again. I have lost not only a friend but a brother! I struggled last night with many emotions and memories. Jon meant more to me than he will ever know. I remember clearly all the loops we had during our years on the road together. He would always look forward to getting home to his family. After every loop he would say to me, “Goodbye Forever”, because he would want his 1 or two days with them, to feel like forever. One thing he taught me through his own actions was to be a better father and husband. He was one of a kind in everything he did, great performer, great father, great husband, great friend, and all around amazing human. My heart goes out to everyone who was touched by his greatness. My deepest condolences to his family. Jon this is not, “Goodbye forever, but goodbye for now! I will see you on the otherside my brother. I LOVE YOU!”
The other members of the Wyatt Family have also commented, with Bray Wyatt mourning the loss of his friend with a wonderful eulogy, and Braun Strowman sharing an equally heartbreaking and heartwarming tribute post too.
WWE also released a statement following the passing of former Intercontinental Champion Luke Harper, with Vince McMahon adding his thoughts and expressing his sympathies. AEW’s Twitter account has retweeted tributes from WWE, AEW and across the world of wrestling.
We have collated several of the tributes posted by wrestlers from WWE, AEW and beyond here.
Everyone at Inside The Ropes is heartbroken to learn of Jon Huber’s passing, and we send our condolences to all of his friends, family and fans at this time.
