Eric Bischoff opened up about his challenges working with WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley during Foley’s time in WCW.
Speaking on his podcast, 83 Weeks, Bischoff expressed admiration for Foley’s talent but admitted to clashing with him over his high-risk wrestling style.
“The only issue I had with Foley is he wanted to do things, physically, that I just couldn’t let him do. I got word from Turner Legal to tone him down. There were concerns that not only could he permanently injure himself, or worse, but some of the stuff that he was doing could injure a fan, or worse.”
According to Bischoff, Foley’s reckless in-ring antics caught the attention of Turner Broadcasting’s legal department, who feared potential liabilities stemming from serious injuries to Foley or even the audience. These concerns prompted Bischoff to intervene and place restrictions on Foley’s performances.
Bischoff described having to “reign in” Foley on multiple occasions, noting that the pushback may have ultimately led to Foley’s decision to leave WCW. Foley would go on to achieve legendary status in WWE, where his boundary-pushing style helped define his career.
Why Does Eric Bischoff Believe That No Faction Will Ever Surpass The Greatness Of The NWO?
Eric Bischoff spoke about the reason he believes no faction will ever surpass the nWo in terms of greatness because it happened at a time when the wrestling business was evolving and it was the catalyst for that change, and to this day nWo branded merchandise continues to be a top seller for WWE.
