Eric Bischoff Claims MJF Will Make The Same End-Of-Career Move As John Cena

John Cena

In recent years John Cena has began to leave the wrestling world behind, branching out into Hollywood. This has seen the star appear as the title character in the Peacemaker television series, a role his also took to The Suicide Squad.

Cena heading into the mainstream isn’t something new for wrestling figures with the likes of Hulk Hogan, Dwayne Johnson and Batista having made the same move with varying levels of success. While in more recent times Sasha Banks has also seen her celebrity grow with more mainstream television roles.

Eric Bischoff Tips MJF To Follow John Cena

Speaking on his podcast Strictly Business, Eric Bischoff has now tipped new AEW World Champion MJF to follow in Cena’s footsteps. MJF was recently linked with an appearance in The Iron Claw, which will tell the tragic story of the Von Erich family.

“You’ve got MJF, who I think probably has the ability to at some point in his life to play at whatever level of the entertainment business he chooses to. If you’re Tony Khan and all of a sudden MJF gets a part and an opportunity to be in a big movie and once he does, you know he’s not coming back, then yeah, it’s bad.”

“Your guy that you used to have under contract for X amount of dollars a year is now making four times that much, or ten times that much, for doing a movie,” Bischoff said. “John Cena was at the end of his in-ring career … He was good for the industry in general.”

MJF became World Champion for the first time after defeating Jon Moxley at AEW Full Gear. The finish of the match wasn’t without controversy as William Regal shockingly turned on Moxley throw a pair of brass knuckles to MJF. Naturally, the Salt of the Earth then drilled Moxley with the weapon to grab the win.

John Cena hasn’t wrestled since taking part in a dark match following the September 10th, 2021 episode of Friday Night SmackDown at Madison Square Garden. His last televised match came at SummerSlam 2021 where he was defeated by Roman Reigns.

The star returned to Monday Night Raw on June 27th 2022 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his WWE debut. While Cena has refused to rule out a return to the ring, it is unknown when or where he will wrestle again.
