While Roman Reigns has been positioned as a top star since making his main roster debut in 2012, over the last two years he has moved to a whole new level.
The Tribal Chief is currently in the midst of the most dominant World Championship reign in the modern era, having reeled off a string of acclaimed performances against the likes of Brock Lesnar and John Cena to name just two. Outside of the ring, Reigns has also excelled, with fans and wrestling stars past and present queuing up to heap praise on the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for his character work.
Eric Bischoff Tips Hat To “Biggest Name In The Industry” Roman Reigns
One of the features of Reigns’ run, especially in 2022, has been his lack of matches. The star was worked a vastly reduced schedule especially since WrestleMania 38, meaning he has only wrestled on major events.
Speaking on his Strictly Business podcast, Eric Bischoff explained that this lack of matches has made the matches he does have even more special.
“This dude has been busting his a** for the last six years they’ve been pushing Roman,” Bischoff said. “The fact that now he’s finally reached that level where he is the biggest name in the world in the industry and now people are bi***ing because they don’t see him wrestle a 20-minute match every week? If you saw him wrestle a 20-minute match every week, you wouldn’t want to see him anymore!”
Bischoff continued by casting his eye over to AEW, suggesting that Tony Khan needs to do all he can to protect new World Champion MJF.
“There’s two ways to kill a talent, one is not to expose them enough and the other is to overexpose them,” Bischoff said. “There’s a saying ‘less is more,’ that’s so true when you get to the top of the mountain. You can get overexposed so quickly and easily. Nobody intends to do it, it’s not malicious, it’s just lack of experience.”
Roman Reigns is scheduled to return to SmackDown on December 16th, after being out of action since Survivor Series with a ruptured eardrum.
