A new report shed light on how far in advance plans were made for Eric Bischoff and Grayson Waller to make surprise appearances on Monday Night Raw.
The December 27th episode of Monday Night Raw featured not just one but two surprise appearances, one from WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff and one from rising NXT Superstar Grayson Waller.
These appearances came at a time when multiple performers were pulled from live events over the weekend amidst the latest COVID-19 outbreak that has reportedly seen several WWE talents test positive for the virus.
A new report from PWInsider reveals that the creative plans to bring in Eric Bischoff as a surprise for the episode were locked into place on December 23, and the report also states that plans to have Grayson Waller appear were made around the same time, so neither was a last minute decision.
Eric Bischoff made his return to Raw as the officiant for the vow renewal ceremony between The Miz and his wife Maryse.
When Bischoff asked if anyone had any objections to the vow renewal, the sounds of Metalingus played and Edge made his entrance, interrupting the proceedings. He said that he wasn’t out there to ruin anything, but talked about his scheduled match with the groom at Day One and teased that he would embarrass the couple.
After Miz yelled at the WWE Hall of Famer to stop, Edge said, “Wait, you didn’t want this to be a white wedding, did you?” The music of Edge’s former stable The Brood began to play, and Miz and Maryse were subject to a brutal Broodbath, spoiling their beautiful white clothing with a black viscous liquid.
Meanwhile, Grayson Waller appeared to continue his feud with AJ Styles that began on the previous week’s NXT 2.0. Not wanting to wait until Tuesday for another confrontation, he appeared in the crowd while AJ Styles cut a promo asking where Omos was tonight as his former tag team partner was absent from Raw.
The NXT star held up a sign that stated “The Grayson Waller effect is phenomanal.” He then hopped the barricade to confront AJ Styles in the ring to continue the war of words they started on NXT.
Grayson Waller and AJ Styles are set to face off at NXT 2.0 New Year’s Evil on January 4th while Edge and The Miz will have their confrontation a few days earlier at WWE Day One on New Year’s Day.
