Eric Bischoff Explains Went Wrong During Infamous Goldberg Match

Eric Bischoff spoke about what went wrong with the infamous Goldberg match where he faced Lord Steven Regal during his undefeated streak where he was, up until that point, beating opponents in just a few short minutes.

In a recent episode of his “83 Weeks” podcast, Eric Bischoff shed light on this pivotal match, revealing the original intention behind it. Goldberg needed nurturing to work longer matches, a necessity arising from the concern that WCW would run out of opponents willing to lose to him in less than a minute. Over the years, Regal bore the brunt of the blame for the match’s shortcomings. Bischoff, however, acknowledged that the responsibility was shared between him, Regal, and an unnamed agent involved in the match.

Bischoff candidly expressed his disappointment with the agent’s handling of the situation, stating:

When the s**t hit the fan, that agent looked down at a piece of paper and never looked up.

He lamented the lack of accountability and failure to rectify communication issues, which led to Regal unfairly shouldering the blame. It was emphasised that Regal’s previous struggles were not a factor, as he had been clean for seven months without any drug or attitude issues.

Never took responsibility, never jumped in and said, ‘Wait a minute, I think part of the problem was we didn’t do a good job communicating. I’ll take responsibility for that as the agent, he’s how we fix it next time.’ That didn’t happen, all the blame went to Regal. He’d been clean for seven months, it wasn’t a drug issue, it wasn’t an attitude problem.

Regal, who was the first to truly challenge Goldberg during his streak, echoed Bischoff’s sentiments, acknowledging the agent’s role in the match’s missteps.

Which Member Of The NWO Did Eric Bischoff Think Was A Bad Fit For The Group?

Eric Bischoff spoke about how the “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase was a bad fit for the nWo. Bischoff expressed that it was due to no fault of DiBiase’s just that he didn’t gel with the style of the group.
