Eric Bischoff Criticises Recent Raw Segment – “It Made No Sense”

Former WCW President Eric Bischoff has criticised a recent Monday Night Segment saying that it “made no sense, wasn’t artistic and wasn’t creative.”

Ever since Bobby Lashley attacked Goldberg’s son in the aftermath of their clash at SummerSlam, the WWE Hall of Famer has been on the war path. In the heated build-up to the bout, the two traded insults with Goldberg’s son, Gage also being dragged into the action.

At SummerSlam, Goldberg was defeated via referees stoppage due to a knee injury but it was what happened after the bell which sparked chaos. Gage jumped the barrier to get in the ring, only to be greeted by Lashley and the Hurt Lock. Despite the now former WWE Champion’s protestations that the clash was accidental, Goldberg was having none of it.

This led to a segment on Raw where the former Universal Champion appeared via satellite. In the promo Goldberg promised to hurt Lashley “real bad” before threatening to kill him. The following week, Goldberg returned to Raw and made the same promise in person.

Discussing the original promo segment on his 83 Weeks podcast, available via AdFreeShows, Eric Bischoff broke down why he didn’t appreciate Goldberg’s choice of words. Eric Bischoff said that the use of the word “kill” instantly loses the audience as they know that the Superstar in question won’t actually kill someone in the ring.

“The minute that happens, you’ve lost the audience,” Eric Bischoff said. “I don’t know how to say this without saying it so I’ll take whatever s**t I take, but they know you’re not going to deliver. It makes no sense, it’s not artistic, it’s not creative, you’re not building anticipation, you’re not creating a stake, you’re not giving us a unique insight into your personality. You’re just saying something a 15-year-old or 16-year-old would say to somebody else as they’re getting their a** kicked in a school yard somewhere.”

On the October 4th episode of Raw, Goldberg came to the ring with only one thing on his mind, a showdown with Bobby Lashley. After calling out Lashley, the former WWE Champion came to the top of the ramp saying that he would face Goldberg at Crown Jewel but only on one condition. The match had to be No Holds Barred.

Goldberg said that No Holds Barred gave him a “license to kill” before telling Lashley, “You’re next. You’re dead.”
