Eric Bischoff Compares Managing Wrestlers To Managing Rock Bands

Managing a team of very different people can be challenging at the best of times. But what’s it like in the chaotic world that is pro wrestling?

An outsider looking in would only assume that creativity can surely only be hindered by egos and willingness to do what is requested or required in such an industry. But one man who has first-hand knowledge is Eric Bischoff. Widely acknowledged for his role in revolutionising professional wrestling during the 1990s, particularly with his tenure as President of WCW.

His innovative strategies and business acumen played a significant role in elevating WCW to unprecedented heights, leading to the iconic “Monday Night Wars” against the WWE. Eric Bischoff recently gave some insight on working with various talents on his 83 Weeks Patreon. Speaking specifically about creative people, he said…

“Creative people, in general, are a lot harder to manage than non-creative people, their brains work a little differently. They’re not as organised, generally not as disciplined, not as focused. They get distracted very easily by bright, shiny objects. I’m one of those guys. I know that feeling.”

In addition to his impactful stint at WCW, Bischoff also made notable contributions to WWE, where he served as the General Manager of RAW, even if this was restricted as only an on-screen persona. Nevertheless, his creative vision and strategic insight continue to leave a lasting imprint on the wrestling landscape.

In regards to managing in-ring talent, the former nWo member made comparisons to other entertainment outlets.

“Managing wrestling talent, in particular, can be very challenging, just like it can be challenging managing rock and roll bands, or actresses and actors, or probably freaking ballerinas, I don’t know.”

Eric Bischoff Reveals Who He Would Fire If Given A Second Chance

Eric Bischoff talked about handling his leadership role at WCW differently even if he was given the opportunity to do it all again. Citing some regret, the former WCW President revealed who he would let go if he was in the same position now. Bischoff feels he would have opted for an overhaul within the company, contemplating the removal and replacement of a substantial portion of particular staff.
