Former WWE General Manager and WCW Senior Vice President, Eric Bischoff has been sounding off on AEW.
Since AEW’s debut on 2nd October 2019, there has been excitement in the wrestling community of a company that gives an alternative to WWE’s ‘Sports Entertainment’ brand of wrestling. They have managed to sign former WWE Superstars like Chris Jericho, CM Punk, Sting and Bryan Danielson, who have helped pull attention to the company from casual wrestling fans, who may not have necessarily been interested before seeing a star they knew to join the company.
“No matter how much Tony Khan wants to believe it is, it’s not. You’re in the same business, Tony. That’s not the same thing as being in competition. You’re not taking market share, Tony … Other than the fact that a new company has emerged in this space, what’s changed? Nothing’s changed.”
Khan is the CEO of AEW, a company he started with the help of Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and current WWE Superstar, Cody Rhodes. Tony Khan has break down the traditional barriers between promotions, and the so-called ‘Forbidden Door,’ with some of AEW’s stars appearing on IMPACT Wrestling and vice-versa, and more recently running the Forbidden Door Pay-Per-View with NJPW.
