Eric Bischoff explained why he wasn’t a fan of Becky Lynch’s ostentatious ‘Big Time Becks’ character.
Before Becky Lynch turned babyface following her SummerSlam match with Bianca Belair, she was one of the top heels on Monday Night Raw. Nicknamed ‘Big Time Becks,’ Lynch completely transformed herself into a brash, egotistical character who wore outlandish outfits whenever she walked into the arena.
The ‘Big Time Becks’ persona was a complete 180 from the outspoken, anti-hero persona she created during her rivalry with Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in 2018. No longer was Lynch ‘The Man’ of the people; instead, she went against who the people cheered for, such as Bianca Belair, Liv Morgan, Asuka, and others.
During his latest “83 Weeks” podcast, former Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff spoke about why he wasn’t a fan of the persona and had more appreciation for ‘The Man.’ In Bischoff’s opinion, Lynch was more believable as a tough badass who threw shade at people on social media.
“I like Becky Lynch a lot. I like Becky a lot. I’m not as much of a fan of the most recent version of Becky, I don’t know why it’s a little too much glitz and glamour. Because to me, Becky’s one of those, I hope she doesn’t hear this because I really respect her and I wouldn’t want her to take this the wrong way.
But she’s like, one of those women, you have the misfortune of going into a bar and nightclub and just getting a little too cute for your own good, and she would just lay waste to you, just totally thrash you verbally and then physically and make you feel like the smallest version of a man walking the earth.
I like that in a woman. She’s so real. Just like I believe her. And she’s so good at working social media. That’s when Becky first landed on my radar, it was about six or eight months before I actually went to work for WWE in 2019. So early in 2019, is when I first started going, because I didn’t watch a lot of wrestling, so Becky Lynch? Who is Becky Lynch? I kept seeing her pop up on social media and her social media was like, right on the money.
Lynch injured her shoulder during her Raw Women’s Championship match against Belair at SummerSlam. It’s unknown when ‘The Man’ will return for in-ring action, though it seems unlikely it would be before 2022 comes to a close.
Regardless, the former women’s champion is rumoured to be heading for a huge one-on-one match against Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania. Whether or not Lynch will be ready in time for Mania season remains to be seen. As for Eric Bischoff, he recently stated that a full-time return for him in WWE is out of the question.
