The recent string of talent releases by AEW sent shockwaves through social media, drawing comparisons to WWE‘s contentious budget cuts.
During an episode of 83 Weeks, Eric Bischoff shared his insights on these developments, signalling a potential shift in Tony Khan‘s business approach. In an unexpected turn, Eric Bischoff, who has had his past disagreements with Khan, expressed his approval of AEW’s decision to release talent, despite Khan’s prior stance against such actions. With candour, Bischoff labelled the move as a smart business decision, while stating that he was not aware of the individuals released.
It’s probably really smart; it may be the only second or third smart thing that Tony has done now in a while. The sad thing is — I don’t mean any offence — but I never heard of any one of them.
While acknowledging the unfamiliarity of the released talents, Bischoff advised them to view this change as a catalyst for personal growth. He emphasised the pitfalls of becoming complacent and highlighted the liberating effect of stepping out of one’s comfort zone.
By that, my new favourite saying: ‘Comfort is a thief.’ It’s very easy to get comfortable getting a check every two weeks without any pressure, it’s hard not to get comfortable, but it’s stealing from you too, because you’re not doing anything.
Bischoff also commended AEW’s past successes, particularly referencing AEW All In 2023, and portrayed the recent talent releases as a pivotal business manoeuvre, signifying a shift towards a more financially prudent approach.
I take it as a positive. This is apparently a decision that now suggests there is now an emphasis on not spending that kind’a money and just playing in the sandbox.
Who Did Eric Bischoff Say He Would Have Fired In WCW If He Could Go Back To When He Started?
Eric Bischoff revealed that he would have had a major upheaval of the WCW VP/director’s staff if he could go back to when he first became President of the company. Bischoff said he would of made no less than eight to ten major changes in the promotion.
