Former WWE Tag Team Champion Epico has revealed that Andrade opened up to him about his frustrations with WWE in the weeks leading up to his release.
Epico who left WWE in April 2020 as part of company cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic, said in a new interview that he was happy for his friend, adding that he deserved a better spot.
Speaking to Dr. Chris Featherstone on the UnSKripted podcast, Epico referred to Andrade as “one of the best in the world.”
“I’m happy for him. He’s put in his time there, he’s put in his time outside of WWE, he deserved a better spot and now doing his own thing, nobody can cut his wings off and he can fly high and do what he knows to do best. Right now he’s one of the best in the world, second to none. On top of that he’s one of my good friends. I was just talking to him today, cracking some jokes and just talking about his future and the future looks bright for him.”
The former WWE Superstar then went on to detail how he had spoken to Andrade in the run up to his release, with the former NXT Champion commenting that “I hate sitting at catering every week.”
“I’ve been talking to him. I saw him in Orlando two weeks ago and he was like “they are not doing anything with me and it’s not a matter of the money but me following my dreams. I hate sitting at catering every week. It’s pretty toxic when you look at it that way. You’ve got the best performers in the world over there. Just look at the locker room.”
It was initially reported that Andrade had asked for his release from WWE on March 12th, although it was later established that this request had been denied.
A few days later, the man himself confirmed the reports and thanked fans for their support. Following a tweet from Andrade suggesting that “good news” was on the way, WWE officially announced his departure on March 21st.
