Edge vs Randy Orton Planned For WrestleMania 37

Edge Randy Orton

Randy Orton defeated Drew McIntyre at last night’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view to lift the WWE Championship for the 10th time (his 14th World Title overall), and according to Dave Meltzer he has a WrestleMania main event with Edge in his future.

Meltzer first noted several weeks ago that WWE’s planned main event for WrestleMania 37 was another meeting between Edge and Orton, who wrestled in a Last Man Standing bout at WrestleMania 36 and again in The Greatest Wrestling Match of All Time at Backlash.

In the latter bout, Edge suffered a torn triceps injury that has kept him on the shelf since, but it seems the rivalry will recommence when The Rated R Superstar makes his return to the ring.

Meltzer notes that nothing has changed in WWE’s future plans and that Edge vs Orton III with the WWE Championship on the line is still the direction the promotion intends to go.

Although this is purely speculation at this point, there is a possibility that Edge will return at Royal Rumble and win the men’s Rumble match (much like he famously did in 2010), setting up the WrestleMania meeting with Orton.

In addition to Orton vs. Edge, WWE is also clearly building towards Roman Reigns vs. The Rock in a continuation of the Anoa’i family rivalry, although whether the match happens is largely down to whether Rock will be able to balance wrestling on the show with his various other commitments, not to mention getting insured after he was injured the last time he wrestled.

WWE is also reportedly looking at doing a singles bout between the returning Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch, but again, that is far from confirmed and little more than a widely-reported rumour at this point.
