It has been over two months since “The Rated R Superstar” Edge has appeared on WWE television. In his last appearance, he lost an I Quit match to Finn Balor at Extreme Rules 2022.
The manner of the loss was very controversial, as the formerly Edge-led faction the Judgement Day, now led by Balor, had threatened to hurt Edge’s wife, Beth Phoenix. However, after Edge uttered the words “I Quit,” the Judgement Day harmed Beth Phoenix anyway. Rhea Ripley would drill Phoenix with a sickening Con-chair-to.
Now it is reported that Edge may return for a match at the 2023 Royal Rumble. Beware, potential SPOILERS lie ahead.
Edge Set For Major Match At WWE 2023 Royal Rumble
A report by Wrestling News Co has revealed the potential card for January’s Royal Rumble event. The lineup, short of the traditional Royal Rumble matches, has yet to be revealed on television. However, further match announcements are expected to be made on the 30th December edition of SmackDown.
Notably, Edge versus “Demon” Finn Balor is set to be announced. The match is anticipated to be a gimmick match, with strong hints towards the two men competing inside Hell in a Cell.
This match would make logical storyline sense. Edge will be seeking revenge on Finn Balor for what the Judgement Day did to his wife. Hell in a Cell is also a fitting stipulation for the blood feud. Interestingly, this may be WWE’s first Hell in a Cell match following rumours that Triple H considers the namesake Premium Live Event “dead.”
Specifically mentioning “Demon” Finn Balor is also very interesting. Balor’s alter-ego has yet to be seen since Extreme Rules 2021. With this being a big match at one of the year’s biggest shows, it might be time for Balor to bring back the body paint and put on a spectacle with “The Rated R Superstar.”
Elsewhere on the reported Royal Rumble 2023 card, Roman Reigns is set to face Kevin Owens, and Ronda Rousey will face Raquel Rodriguez. A “Pitch Black match” is also reported, but no context has accompanied this other than a potential link to Bray Wyatt.
