Edge Recalls Triumphant Royal Rumble Return Two Years On

Edge

On the anniversary of his shock return to action, Edge has reflected on his unlikely Royal Rumble comeback.

The Royal Rumble match is famous for comebacks, but on January 26th at the 2020 edition of the event, Edge pulled off one of the most unlikely returns of all-time.

On April 11th 2011 Edge was forced to call time on his legendary career. More then two decades of punishment inside the ring and a litany of serious injuries meant that he was advised to never wrestle again. Although wrestling retirements are notoriously flimsy, even the most sceptical of fans would have been hard pushed to see the Rated R Superstar getting back in the ring.

However, there was a glimmer of hope at SummerSlam in 2019 when Edge interrupted Elias hitting him with a Spear. While a small cameo is rarely earth-shattering, it marked the first time that the star had done anything remotely physical in the ring for more than eight years.

Fast forward six months and to the shock and amazement of those watching around the world, Edge was back.

On the second anniversary of his stunning comeback, the star has taken to social media to reflect on the jaw-dropping moment. The WWE Hall of Famer said that he’d accomplished a lot since coming back, but there was more work to do.

On the night, the former World Champion entered at number 21, eliminating three Superstars before having his run ended by Roman Reigns. Although he picked up an injury shortly after this appearance, he returned to the ring once more at the 2021 edition of the event, going on to win the match for a second time.

After becoming wrapped up in a rivalry with The Miz, Edge will team with his wife Beth Phoenix to take on The A-Lister and his wife Maryse at the upcoming show.
