Edge has made his long-awaited return to WWE, throwing down the gauntlet to Roman Reigns in brutal fashion on the latest edition of SmackDown!
Reigns and his special counsel Paul Heyman stood in the ring to deliver a speech on the champion’s dominance over the past year. Heyman proclaimed that there was no one left to challenge the champion and that the ‘Head of the Table’ would do something that’s “never been done on network television before.” Before the Universal Champion could speak, however, Edge’s music blasted through the ThunderDome.
‘The Rated R Superstar’ entered the ring and attacked Reigns, beating him down before nailing a spear. Jimmy Uso saved his cousin from a con-chair-to attempt only to get speared through the barricade for his efforts.
It seems that Edge has inserted himself back into title contention.
Edge has been absent from WWE television since WrestleMania 37, making his return after over two months away. He challenged the ‘Tribal Chief’ for the Universal Championship in a triple threat match with Daniel Bryan, but was unsuccessful with Reigns pinning both men in the main event of ‘The Show of Shows’.
Elsewhere on SmackDown: Seth Rollins teamed with Bayley to beat Cesaro and Bianca Belair. After the match, Rollins confronted Adam Pearce and Sonya Deville demanding a Universal Championship shot of his own.
Big E defeated Apollo Crews to qualify for the Money in the Bank match and Deville announced that Carmella is in the women’s ladder match. Liv Morgan would go on to defeat Carmella for the second week in a row to also qualify.
