Since winning the Men’s 2021 Royal Rumble match, Edge has once again become one of the hottest names in all of wrestling. Since throwing Randy Orton over the top rope to win the match, every appearance that the Rated R Superstar makes is box office.
Following on from that victory Edge spoke to journalists in a global WWE teleconference. During the conference The WWE Hall Of Famer, was asked for his thoughts on The Undertaker’s recent comments on Joe Rogan’s podcast, where he called the current product “a little soft.” Comments that Edge, in response to a question from Bild reporter Enrico, explained that he believes were taken out of context.
“I think any comment can be taken out of context and I think that’s part of what happened there. In a three-hour interview, I think they took the most salacious 20-second clip. I think anybody, whoever steps foot into the wrestling ring, no matter what era – whether it be the 1940s, whether it be the 2020s – all tough.”
The former seven-time World Heavyweight Champion went on to praise today’s performers, saying that they have to deal with many different challenges that simply weren’t around during the first part of his career.
“All got into this because they love it, for the most part. And there’s different challenges that come with every era, with every decade, with every incarnation of what this business becomes. We didn’t have the challenge that is social media. Now it’s a great outlet in order to get your product out there, in order to make your brand bigger. But, there’s also a whole lot of hiccups and possible bumps on the road that come along with that. That’s a challenge we didn’t have to navigate. We just had to worry about getting to the building and producing. Now, the cameras never stop rolling. Now, every aspect of your life that is under a microscope. That’s an entirely different challenge than we ever encountered. It’s just different is all. To me, anybody who ever steps foot in there – badass.”
After winning the 2021 Men’s Royal Rumble match, 11 years to the day that he won his first Royal Rumble, Edge appeared on Raw to face Randy Orton, before showing up on NXT, confronting Finn Balor and Pete Dunne. There has been no confirmation on who Edge will face at Wrestlemania, although it is currently being reported that current plans see him heading for a showdown with ‘The Tribal Chief’ and WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
