Edge – “Bret Hart Is The Daniel Day-Lewis Of Pro Wrestling”

‘The Rated-R Superstar’ Edge has compared Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart to legendary Hollywood actor Daniel Day-Lewis thanks to the subtle things he did between the ropes that drew the viewer in.

Arguably the greatest technical wrestler of all time, ‘The Excellence of Execution’ won the hearts and minds of millions in the nineties for his pure brilliance between the ropes and the ability to have a convincing match with any wrestler regardless of their size or ability.

Clashes against Ric Flair, Razor Ramon and Yokozuna helped to cement his status as a true singles star between 1992 and 1993 while his feud with brother Owen in 1994 still stands the test of time as not only of the greatest feuds in all of professional wrestling, but also one of the greatest blood rivalries the sport has ever seen.

Now, 2021 Royal Rumble winner and Bret Hart fanatic Edge has sat down with Steve Dangle Podcast in order to detail why Bret Hart was simply the best and why the legend reminds the former WWE Champion of actor Daniel Day-Lewis while discussing the best matches he wasn’t personally involved in:

“I mean, Undertaker/Shawn Michaels, and I think you gotta go WrestleMania 25. You can’t go wrong with 26 as well. God, anything involving Bret Hart. I mean, Bret Hart, to me, is the Daniel Day-Lewis of pro wrestling. He does the little things and just these little subtle things, and I don’t know, you just get pulled into a believability with Bret Hart’s matches. We all know it’s entertainment, but you watch a Bret Hart match and you can question that. It’s just little subtle things. He doesn’t overdo anything, it’s just little subtleties, nuances that he does that I could watch Bret Hart matches all day. Another guy and this is a name from the past, but Nick Bockwinkel. Man, I love me some Nick Bockwinkel. I can go down a Nick Bockwinkel wormhole and like 5 hours late I’ll hear, ‘where are you?’ It’s like, ‘I’m sorry, I was watching Bockwinkel in All Japan from 1984 when he was like 52 years old and out-wrestling everyone.’ Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 20. Or Angle and Shawn from WrestleMania 21. Angle was in a pocket there where everything he was doing was just so damn good. Those are ones that jump to the top of my head.”

As the winner of the 2021 Royal Rumble Match, Edge now gets a choice of who he faces in the main event of WrestleMania 37 which will be sponsored by Snickers. His choices are WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, NXT Champion Finn Balor or the longest reigning NXT UK Champion in history, WALTER.
