AEW Star Eddie Kingston Out Injured Much Longer Than First Predicted

Eddie Kingston could miss up to a year of action.

Last competing at the NJPW Resurgence pay-per-view on May 11th, Kingston lost the Strong Openweight Championship to Gabe Kidd in a no ropes last man standing match. The spot that caused a lot of concern for the welfare of Kingston took place when the AEW’s leg was caught on the barricade as he went crashing through a table on the outside.

Pulled from the Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing, it was later confirmed that Eddie Kingston had suffered a broken leg. However, in an update from Kingston, that was not the only injury he suffered.

Originally speaking with PWInsider shortly after the injury was confirmed, Kingston confirmed that he suffered a torn ACL and meniscus on top of the tibia fracture. As a result of this, the former Continental Champion would require surgery and was expected to be out of action for 9 months. When asked about the injury by PWinsider, Kingston said the following:

“This is part of the game. Injuries happen. I will be back.”

Update: PWInsider caught up with Kingston on May 23rd for a follow-up interview and received even more bad news. As Kingston will have to wait for his tibia fracture to heal and undergo therapy before surgeons focus on the knee and begin recovery on the tear, the estimated return is now not until May 2025 provided there are no other changes. When asked about the crushing update, Kingston said the following:

“Not mad. I don’t give a f***. it’s what happens when you wrestle. Just gotta get f**king better.”

Eddie Kingston’s Replacement Also In Doubt

Kingston was originally set to team with Bryan Danielson and FTR to compete against The Elite in an Anarchy in the Arena match at Double or Nothing. With Kingston now out of the match, it was revealed on the May 15th episode of Dynamite that Darby Allin would be the replacement for Team AEW as he made his shock return from a broken foot. Although Darby Allin was announced as the replacement, his involvement in the match is also in doubt due to a suspected injury suffered moments before his return.

In other AEW news, the company will be making a major change to an upcoming PPV.

Everyone at Inside The Ropes wishes Eddie Kingston a full and speedy recovery.
