During the main event of AEW’s Road Rager event, Eddie Kingston would use the spotlight to pay tribute to wrestling legend Terry Funk following news that the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion is suffering from Dementia.
‘The Magnificent’ Don Muraco first stated on his ‘Magnificent’ podcast that Funk is dealing with dementia and is now staying in an assisted living facility in his hometown of Amarillo, Texas. Mike Johnson of PWInsider has since confirmed the sad news that Funk is living with dementia. Johnson noted that Terry Funk has been dealing with health issues for some time but things have deteriorated since the passing of Funk’s wife Vickie in March 2019.
AEW Road Rager’s main event saw Eddie Kingston and Pentagon El Zero Miedo challenge The Young Bucks for the prestigious AEW Tag Team Championships.
Ahead of the match, Kingston would make his way to the ring dawning not only a classic Terry Funk t-shirt but the The Hardcore Icon’s iconic headband, but Kingston would also honour the legend of Funk by bringing hardcore to the main event match complete with thumbtacks and trash cans.

The match looked on many occasions as if it would be going in Kingston and Pentagon’s favour with the challengers getting the visual win as Eddie Kingston submitted Matt Jackson whilst the official was unconscious following an attack from Nick Jackson.
However, it would ultimately be The Young Bucks who were victorious as they filled Kingston’s mouth with the thumbtacks before connecting with stereo Superkicks to keep one of wrestling toughest men down for the three-count.
During the same show, AEW would see the shock debut of former NXT Champion Aleister Black, as well as several major announcements for upcoming AEW programming.
