Eddie Kingston reveals a concerning reason behind considering retirement.
Last year 2024, on May 11, former Continental Champion Eddie Kingston broke his leg in NJPW during his match against Gabe Kidd. Sidelined since then, Kingston is currently recovering from his injury and preparing for his return to the Jacksonville-based promotion.
Recently, while speaking on Cezar Bononi’s YouTube Channel, Kingston opened up about his mental health struggles and how it has prompted him to consider retirement.
“I’m watching AEW and I’m seeing all this great sh*t that these guys are doing in the ring. And then, like an emotional b*tch—sometimes it happens—I tweet out, like, ‘What the f*ck am I gonna do when I come back?’ Because I’m thinking to myself, ‘How am I gonna fight these dudes’—people can say whatever they want about wrestling—but my mental is, ‘How am I gonna fight these dudes when they’re this good and I wasn’t even that good to begin with?’ That’s why that thing came out about me thinking about retirement. I don’t want to f*cking retire.
I don’t. But during that four or five months of doing PT once in a while—‘cause my insurance are not doing it at all for weeks—I just sat in my own sh*t thinking like, ‘Yeah, man, f*ck. Well, I had fun. I did the G1. But I wanted to do more, but ah, f*ck it.’ So I’m making excuses for why it’s okay to quit.”

Absent for over a year, the 43-year-old has also undergone surgery for a torn meniscus and ACL, and is hoping to come back stronger than ever.
Eddie Kingston Addresses His AEW Return Timeline
A couple of months ago, during a training session with Cezar Bononi, Eddie Kingston shared an update on his recovery and possible AEW return timeline.
Good. It feels fine… They’re trying to rush me back in the ring — training — which is fine. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I’ve been running and stuff like that in the ring. It’s fine. It’s just that it’s business stuff, that I need to get done before I even think about doing anything in the ring for the company, you know what I mean? It’s a lot of business stuff.”
Still with no confirmed update on his return, we at ITR Wrestling would like to wish Eddie Kingston a steady and safe recovery.
