Eddie Kingston made it clear that there’s no love lost between himself and former rival CM Punk.
AEW stars Eddie Kingston and CM Punk battled at AEW Full Gear on November 13th after weeks of being at odds in battles of both words and fists. The personal issues between the men ran deep and had been present for decades, making their feud one of intensity and feeling.
Speaking in an exclusive interview to Inside the Ropes’ Kenny McIntosh, Eddie Kingston made it clear that the dissension between the two men was not simply an on-screen rivalry and that it ran much deeper.
“No. No there’s no like there. He doesn’t like me, I don’t like him, and I don’t think that we will ever like each other. I’m just being honest with you, we are never going to see eye to eye and I’m not a very forgiving person. I am catholic and I believe that is God’s problem, forgiving people. So no, I have no desire to be friends with him and he has no desire to be friends with me. We just do not like each other, and that’s it.”
When asked about why their feud ended after one match at Full Gear and whether Tony Khan realized the animosity between the two men, Eddie Kingston said that he doesn’t try to figure out a booker’s intentions when he’s embroiled in a wrestling rivalry.
“I have no idea what Tony Khan thinks [laughs]. I’m not one of those guys that tries to figure out what the promoter or the booker is trying to do. I just punch in and punch out man. I go in there that day and I say ‘Hey, what do you want from me?’ And he goes ‘This.’ I go ‘OK.’ and that’s it. To be honest with you I have no idea what my future plans are.”
Eddie Kingston was asked if he would like to revisit his rivalry with CM Punk, but Kingston made it clear that his sights are firmly set on the AEW World Championship, no matter who the champion might be.
“I want to be with the champion. I want to be with the World Champion or the TNT Champ, me and Moxley for the Tag Team Tiles, you know what I mean? That’s the goals, to be a champion, that’s what I want. Whatever is going to get me closer to that goal, I’ll do whatever, it doesn’t matter. To me, you mentioned Punk, well Punk is just a man, he’s right in front of me, I don’t care.”
