ECW Legend Sabu Shares Honest Thoughts On WWE’s Revival Of Extreme Brand

Chris Jericho Reveals The High-Risk Match Sabu Wanted To Have:

An ECW legend has given their honest thoughts on WWE’s infamous revival of the extreme brand.

Following the success of The Rise and Fall of ECW documentary, the ECW pay-per-view One Night Stand debuted in 2005 and was once again deemed a success by fans of the extreme promotion. Following the return of One Night Stand in 2006, ECW became the 3rd brand to accompany Raw and SmackDown as a weekly TV show. Known as WWECW, it became apparent very quickly that the revived format would be nothing like the ECW that 90s fans knew and loved. In February 2010, the show went off the air and was replaced by NXT.

Former ECW Champion Sabu was a part of the One Night Stand shows and was with the company until 2007. Speaking about the revised format while being interviewed for Donut Shop Chronicles, the ECW legend revealed that his passion for the project faded away very quickly:

“My intentions on coming to the new ECW was they were going to keep it the way it was build on that. But as I was there, each week it got less and less, you know? Less like the old ECW and more like the new bulls**t, and then I just didn’t fit in. I couldn’t fit in no more; I couldn’t go to work with a smile.”

Sabu Blasts WWE Hall Of Fame

With the promotion purchasing the WCW and ECW branding in the early 2000s, many names from the past have been acknowledged for their contributions in the promotions at the annual Hall of Fame ceremonies. Along with being doubtful that an induction could happen, Sabu also took issue with the WWE Hall of Fame due to one notable inductee, calling the concept “bullsh*t” as a result.
