Former WWE Superstar EC3 has claimed that WWE goes out of its way to make its talent fearful for their jobs, saying the atmosphere created “ruins modern-day wrestling.”
EC3 rejoined WWE in 2018 following a stint in the company that had come to an end in 2013. He went on to a hugely successful career in TNA where he captured the TNA World Championship twice before returning to the NXT brand.
The Top One Percent had a successful time in NXT but the wheels seemed to come off his WWE career when called up to the main roster in early 2019. EC3 could be seen competing frequently on Main Event but only managed to compete in a handful of televised matches on Raw and SmackDown before his WWE tenure came to an end in April 2020.
Speaking to Dr. Chris Featherstone on UnSKripted, EC3 gave his thoughts on what he calls “corporate wrestling” but first commented on what life is like for those on the WWE creative team:
“The creative answered to one man, that one man was Vince [McMahon]. Everyone is nervous and job-scared and they have constant things going on in their world where someone is changing their show. I wouldn’t want their (creative) job to save my life.”
“It would seem like a rat race and they get turned over really quick. It’s a lot of chains and links to get to the top, and it’s how you facilitate that through your writer and who’s overseeing him. Because at the end of the day, it’s only one man who counts, so that’s what you have to do.”
The 4-time WWE 24/7 Champion continued, saying that an atmosphere of job insecurity and worry is manufactured on purpose in the company:
“It’s corporate wrestling man. It’s controlled mechanism. You’re created to be job-scared and petrified and fall in line, which truly ruins modern-day wrestling because if you’re afraid to do anything, the natural reaction and charisma and ability that talents have is subsided by the back-end fear that they’re going to lose their job.”
“Well, guess what? You’re going to lose your job no matter how – just go out swinging. If I had one regret, it’s that I fell in line and that I didn’t boldly go for it.”
Since leaving WWE, EC3 has promoted two Control The Narrative shows. In the first of these, he fought fellow ex-WWE star Matt Cardona and in the second EC3 lost to the former Braun Strowman, ‘The Titan’ Adam Scherr.
