WWE Superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is riding a wave of success after the release of his latest project Black Adam, with the film already bringing in a sizable amount of earnings in only two weeks since hitting movie screens.

Released October 21, 2022, in the United States, Johnson’s character Black Adam is not the conventional DC hero – something that promises something new for audiences and they are more than willing to fill theaters to see it. The film grossed $117.2 million in the US and Canada and $139.3 worldwide, bringing its total to $256.5 million.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was first introduced to the character of Black Adam in 2014 and has also stated that Black Adam would be the beginning of a new era for the DC Universe – with the whole point of the movie being to give something new and exciting to fans.

“I have been saying for some time, there’s a new era in the DC Universe that’s about to begin. What I really meant by, ‘This is a new era in the DC Universe,’ is listening to the fans. And doing our best to give the fans what they want. I’ve been waiting for someone to step up and address the fans and say, ‘Hey, we hear you. So finally, after many months turned into many years, we ended up with what we ended up at. And the whole goal and intention now is to this new era, new time. Now let’s build out.”

Black Adam eclipsed Shazam! earning $26.7 million in opening day earnings compared to Shazam which peaked at $20.4 million. Black Adam has also become the highest paying film of “The Rock” Johnson’s career with a payday of $67 million.
