For the best part of two years it has been thought that Dwayne Johnson is going to step into the ring one more time and face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.
However, with the spectacular beginning to move into view, it appears that there is still more than a little uncertainty over whether the match will actually happen.
Dwayne Johnson Still “Possible” For WrestleMania
One of the biggest issues when it comes to Dwayne Johnson’s WWE appearances is his schedule. The star is known for having multiple huge projects in the works at the same time, while his last ‘proper’ match against John Cena saw him get injured, causing the filming of his movie Hercules to be pushed back.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that the likelihood of Johnson appearing depends heavily on his schedule, especially with the XFL relaunch just around the corner.
“Am I saying he’s not going to do it? No, I’m not saying that at all. And if he’s doing it, wow, you have him, Austin, and Cena all on the same show – or the same weekend because they’ll split them up, obviously….
Dwayne is a ‘possible’ maybe a probable, I don’t know,”
During the show Meltzer also discussed the potential WrestleMania involvement of John Cena. While the 16-time World Champion is seen as “probable” for the event, his television time in the lead up to WrestleMania would be limited due to filming commitments.
However, it has been confirmed that Cena will be back with WWE before the end of 2022. Cena will team with Kevin Owens on the December 30th edition of SmackDown to take on Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns. The match keeps alive Cena’s remarkable record of having at least one match every year since making his debut in 2002.
