While fans might remember Dwayne Johnson taking on the likes of John Cena, Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania, his most recent opponent was far more unassuming.
After being defeated by John Cena at WrestleMania 29, Dwayne Johnson was forced to take time off after suffering numerous injuries during the match. He followed this up with a cameo alongside Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin at WrestleMania 30, before having a segment with Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Ronda Rousey a year later. When the star appeared at WrestleMania 32 it was assumed that he would be featuring in a similar non-wrestling segment. However, fans were only half right.
Dwayne Johnson Sets WrestleMania Record
After a lengthy entrance involving a flame thrower, Johnson announced that the event had set an all-time attendance record. At this the WWE legend was confronted by Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan and Luke Harper of the Wyatt Family. The Rock then challenged the trio to a match right there and then, a challenge that Rowan stepped forward to accept. Once the bell rang, Johnson delivered a Rock Bottom to his rival and won the match in just six-seconds.
This makes the match the shortest in WrestleMania history. After the clash Rock was surrounded by the Wyatt Family before Cena came to his aid. With their rivals vanquished the pair embraced as they headed back up the ramp.
The match bookended a somewhat strange WrestleMania career which began with a victory over The Sultan, who was later known as Rikishi in 1996. From here, Johnson met Ken Shamrock, Triple H, Mick Foley, the Big Show, Steve Austin Hulk Hogan, Evolution and John Cena.
It has long-been rumoured that Dwayne Johnson will return to action at WrestleMania 39 to take on Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief has beaten all challengers for more than two years, with many feeling that a clash against his cousin is the inevitable conclusion to this run.
