With Dwayne Johnson taking the starring role in Black Adam earlier in 2022, it seemed likely he would come face-to-face with his comicbook nemesis Shazam in the titular hero’s upcoming movie, Fury Of The Gods. However, a new report has revealed The Rock turned down the opportunity.
Dwayne Johnson Turned Down Shazam! 2 Cameo
In the original script for the first Shazam! movie, Black Adam had been set to play a major role. However, Dwayne Johnson told Vanity Fair that he asked for it to be changed as he felt it would be doing the character “an incredible disservice”
“When the first draft of the movie came to us, it was a combination of Black Adam and Shazam: Two origin stories in one movie.”
“Now that was the goal—so it wasn’t a complete surprise. But when I read that, I just knew in my gut, ‘We can’t make this movie like this. We would be doing Black Adam an incredible disservice.’
“It would’ve been fine for Shazam having two origin stories converge in one movie, but not good for Black Adam.”
Now, it seems that he has continued to protect the prestige of the character by also turning down a cameo in Shazam! Fury Of The Gods.
The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez reported the news on Twitter in response to a fan speculating that, with the changes being made to the DC movie universe under James Gunn, it’s unlikely we’ll ever see Shazam and Black Adam duke it out onscreen.
“Rock passed on doing a cameo in Shazam 2 when he was asked.”

While the dream fight between the two superheroes is looking less likely, rumours continue to swirl that Dwayne Johnson will be returning to WWE for another dream bout, facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. While there has been no official confirmation regarding a potential match, it has been reported that there is a mid-January deadline for any plans to be finalised.
