After conquering the world of professional wrestling, Dwayne Johnson set his sights on Hollywood and has become the biggest box office star in the world. It’s no surprise that the star’s Hollywood earnings are eye-watering, but it may surprise fans to learn that his Teremana tequila brand has proven just as lucrative, and one particular promotional tie-in earned The Rock more money than his starring role in the recently-released Black Adam.
According to a report from Essentially Sports, the Teremana product placement in Johnson’s Netflix movie Red Notice earned the star an eye-watering $40 million. Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation gin was also heavily featured in the film and earned a similar sum from product placement. In contrast, the stars earned about $20 million for starring in the film, though Johnson earned slightly more as he was one of the producers.
The incredible earnings from Teremana tequila’s placement in Red Notice were nearly twice what Dwayne Johnson earned for his starring role in DC’s Black Adam, as he reportedly made around $22.5 million for that role.
Dwayne Johnson’s Team Had Input On Red Notice’s Presence At WWE Survivor Series 2021
At the 2021 edition of WWE Survivor Series, Vince McMahon made a surprise on-screen return and boasted about owning an expensive Cleopatra’s Egg, which served as a tie-in to promote Red Notice on WWE programming. However, during the course of the show, the egg went missing and an investigation continued into WWE Raw.
Eventually, it was revealed that Austin Theory had stolen Cleopatra’s Egg to take a selfie with it, and instead of being punished, Theory was rewarded with a title shot. This led to Vince McMahon serving as Austin Theory’s on-screen mentor for a number of months, and their partnership was only cut short when McMahon retired from WWE amidst an investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and hush money payments.
However, according to a report from Fightful Select, the original plans for WWE’s Red Notice cross-promotion had much lower stakes and would have involved the 24/7 Championship instead of the WWE Title. Those original plans were reportedly nixed by Dwayne Johnson’s team, who wanted the tie-in to have more of an impact.
